From Thạch Bi Village to Japan: Our Phở Story

Dang Hoang
Founder & Visionary
Born in 1992 in Thạch Bi, Nam Định—just 4.5 km from Đồng Sơn, the village of Phở Cồ—Dang Hoang grew up in a farming family where phở was a rare treat, a warm bowl of comfort during childhood illnesses. In 2011, his family opened a phở shop in Hải Phòng, where he learned the craft for a year before they moved it back to Thạch Bi in 2012. There, it became a community hub, thriving under the care of his sister and brother-in-law after he left for Japan in 2019.
Despite academic struggles and a stint in coal surveying, Dang Hoang earned a degree in Geographic Information Systems from Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology. Now an IT engineer in Japan, he and his wife share a dream: to bring authentic Nam Định phở to the world. Inspired by his village’s transformation through phở and a tale of a local craftsman hand-making noodles, he’s building "Phở Cồ Việt"—a venture blending tradition with technology to honor his roots and elevate his community.
Our Mission
At Phở Cồ Việt, we aim to:
1. Share the authentic taste of Nam Định’s beef phở globally, starting with Tokyo in 2028, using technology to ensure every bowl is perfect while staying true to tradition.
2. Uplift Thạch Bi by creating jobs, supporting local suppliers, and preserving the phở heritage that has transformed our community’s lives.

Our Team
Phở Cồ Việt is a family-driven dream led by Dang Hoang. With his sister and brother-in-law running the Thạch Bi shop, he and his wife are preparing for a 2028 Tokyo launch. We’re building a team passionate about authentic phở and innovation—join us as we grow!
